When: EARTH DAY Sunday, April 22nd 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Where: Our host, Board Member Anna Nelson 10726 Grey Cloud Island Drive South, Saint Paul Park
Join the FOP2 crew as we prepare for our Reach the River Summit by raising our collective voices. This year we are hosting a letter writing party. We will provide the pre-written letters (scroll down for letter options to download), or you can write your own! Letters will be sent to our local politicians and decision makers along with an invite to our Reach the River Summit. Drinks and snacks provided. First 20 attendees receive a Reach the River bumper sticker (shown below).
It is vital to engage and connect with neighboring organizations that manage and advocate for the river on either side of FOP2’s location. Through strengthening these relationships, sharing initiatives and identifying common goals; the aim is to establish advocacy and action from a strong, united base. Pollution, bluff restoration, best management practices, wetlands, recreation, invasive species and more are common interest themes of the invited groups to this year’s summit. Attendees can hope to grasp the connection between all groups, the exciting projects on deck for 2018 and ways they can get involved; whether it be through letter writing, sponsorship through membership, or on the ground volunteer action. Friends of Pool 2 identifies a need in communication between what is happening in rural agricultural areas, the understanding of remediation projects that are now underway and the effects on Pool 2, Lake Pepin and other downstream river communities.
Dear Letter Writer, These letters are a starting point for you. Please take out or add paragraphs to express yourself and your own personal experiences along the river. Feel free to make it your own. Thanks for helping with this project.
When: Friday, May 4 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM Where: St. Paul Yacht Club 375 W Water St, St. Paul

The summit will be preceded by a FOP2 member and friends, letter writing party to gain media, public and political interest for the summit event and to present a voice for continued water quality policy in Minnesota.Through this advocacy, outreach and education with a focus on a concise topic, we aim to create a unified voice to enhance and protect the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers.
Like last year's meeting, we're all looking forward to enjoying the tasty sandwiches of The Fork in the Road food truck, courtesy of a generous grant from "1 Mississippi" and "Mississippi River Network."
